ABOUT CHRISTIAAN KRÜGER
I am a South African oil painter based in Potchefstroom. I am proud to work in the grand tradition of representational art. I come from a creative family who invested in my art from a young age. In 2013, I obtained a certificate in Oil painting II (NWU), and in 2011, a diploma in Animation and Motion Media. Although my art education started when I was a child, I also strongly believe in self-development and self-directed learning. For that reason, I have also spent many hours using various other resources to educate myself in the art. I love to paint alla prima and from life as far as possible. I am fascinated by the way in which a beautiful painting creates a world of its own for the viewer to enter into, and how spending time with a great painting can uplift and ennoble. I admire the work of masters such as John Singer Sargent, Joaquín Sorolla, Anders Zorn, Cecilia Beaux, and more recently, great painters like Richard Schmid and Jeremy Lipking.
I enjoy portraiture and figurative work because of the complexity of expression the human form allows for.
